Internship underway

I started my internship in the city working for the fashion department of publishing company. It's been amazing so far and I can't wait to start learning the ins and outs of the industry. There's really nothing more satisfying than breathing New York City air. Look out for more blog posts from G and I and enjoy some snips of my work area

It's (fur)reezing outside so of course I bundled up in my favorite oversized vest (via forever21). I've been consumed with wearing grey-on-grey lately...possibly a subconscious attempt to match the snow outside? Hmm..

Happy New Year!

2015 is here and G and I have made a resolution to keep this blog up and running at its finest. Our New Year's Eve consisted of an abundance of champagne and dancing..an amazing welcome to the new year! This week was a hectic one but thanks to the unusually warm weather, G and I managed to survive (we enjoyed our last iced coffees of the season). Here's our OOTD for Monday

NYFOL

This weekend DUMBO, Brooklyn became the birthsite of the first ever New York Festival of Light (NYFOL). A massive crowd of New York’s locals (and not-so-locals) gathered beneath the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge to immerse themselves in the underground culture of light art.

NYFOL is a collection of lighting installations and art pieces created by local and international artists. This expands way past just light techniques and involves everything from interactive music, 3D lighting, and music performances.

Scattered between the streets of Water and Pearl were wandering twenty-somethings, young artists seeking inspiration, or families and friends with a yearn for artistic liberation. We found ourselves in awe of the atmosphere-an inviting (yet bitterly cold) sense of community. Everyone was there for the same reason, to be apart of a unique and wonderful art experience, which automatically banned us all together.

A favorite installation of ours was called ‘Sounds of Nature’ created by artist Tupac Martir. Festival-goers were able to create a unique musical experience by simply tapping their fingers against a hollowed board. The sounds echoed off of other boards within the display to create a mix of tropical beats. Complementing the music were black lit palm trees and dimmed red light bulbs.

Directly under the Archway was the main stage, where artists blended music and lighting to create a ten minute performance. On the outside of the bridge, a projection turned the brick wall into a 3D art spectacle-displaying anything from trippy illusions to even scenery of reindeer carrying a sleigh up the wall (I had to do a double-take to make sure that wasn’t really happening). Other stations made use of string black lights, brightly colored light bulbs, and an interactive wall of neon writing.

The NYFOL offered us an eclectic new experience-one that I thoroughly enjoyed. My fingers are crossed that it will be back (and possibly exapnded) next Fall!
